Testicular ultrasound is an accurate way to detect masses, but sonograms are too expensive to be used for screening . The most cost-effective screening method is simple physical examination of the testicles. Although a program has been developed in the Scandinavian countries to educate men about self-examination (similar to that for breast cancer in women), it has gained acceptance slowly in North America. At the very least, men who have already had a testis cancer and those who had an undescended testicle should learn self-examination and intermittently undergo sonograms.
